Steam Bitchery again

ok...since those fucking pricks at valve dont reply to legit requests for help...ill see if u guys know :P

whats happening is that steam (the actual steam, not the game) tries to update....gets to about 30....and then dies.

im confused as hell, and pissed off more.
any help would be much appreciated

well, to be honest I would think it was something on your end, not that steam isn't bullshit, but it works for me.

things you could try:
1) defrag routinely
2) update only 1 thing at a time, or 1 install at a time
3) make sure you dont have anything else running auto updates at the same time.
4) if networked shut down all other PC so you draw only steam updates.
5) update regularly as what sometimes happens when you are updating is it will go from like 350K+ to 0 and fluctuate alot, the larger the update, the more fluctuation.

6) remember that while you may have DSL at your home all of austrailia logs into a central computer for internet, that computer is on a dialup to AOL. aussie internet sucks :) :flipa:

Fragmenting doesn't have any relevance, but it does affect fps. Perfect Disk is the best all aroudn defragger.

If networked, shut down all other pc's? Are you serious? Wow... Buddy, that is not going to tank it. Most are 10/100 networks and the uplink/downlink doesn't even come close to fully implementing the ports speeds.

It sounds like you have a corrupt INI file or something... Could be a bunked install. Try searching google with any errors, or with the % it dies at... Odd but sometimes it's already been googled.
